“Emergency Room (ER) visits related to energy drinks doubled from 10,000 in 2007 to over 20,000 visits in 2011, with up to 11% of the ER patients under the age of 18. Because of their smaller body mass, children are much more susceptible to the effects of the caffeine contained in energy drinks and other enhanced products.   Children also have less experience with the effects of caffeine and as such, have less tolerance to the drug.”
