What to know: Vaping Products

  • Vaping products contain nicotine and can be referred to as vapes, vape pens, e-cigarettes or electronic cigarettes. The liquid they contain can be referred to as vape juice, e-liquid or e-juice.
  • Nicotine is the toxic component in vaping products. Ingesting small amounts can be managed at home with IPC’s help, but ingesting large amounts can be life-threatening.

My child inhaled my vape or swallowed vape liquid. What should I do? 

Vaping products contain nicotine, which is a highly toxic substance.

If your child has swallowed, sucked on, or had any contact with a vape pen, cartridge or vaping product, call IPC immediately at 1-800-222-1222 for advice specific to your situation.

Symptoms of Poisoning

Ingesting or inhaling vape substances can cause vomiting, sweating, drowsiness/tiredness, shaking, confusion, seizures and even death.

Eye Exposure

  • Vaping products may cause irritation if exposed to eyes.

  • If your child got vape substances in their eyes, rinse by pouring clean, lukewarm water across the affected eye(s) for 15 minutes.
