Toxikon Consortium

The Toxikon Consortium is a clinical educational partnership between the Cook County Health and Hospital SystemUI Health and the Illinois Poison Center (IPC). Its mission is to provide excellence in clinical care, training, education, and research related to the poisoned patient.

  • Clinical Care: Toxikon medical toxicologists provide 24/7/365 medical back up to the Illinois Poison Center. They provide medical toxicology sub-specialty treatment recommendations to healthcare providers across the state for the most critically ill patients in their care.
  • Training and Education: Emergency medicine residents, medical students, and pharmacy students and residents can attend monthly rotations and receive in-depth education on the treatment of the poisoned patient. Activities include conference, lectures, journal club, case group discussion on common overdose treatment, a week long rotation in the IPC 1-800-222-1222 Helpline/call center and daily rounds on patients in the care of the Toxikon Consortium.  
  • Research: The Toxikon Consortium faculty and fellows are engaged in clinical and bench research to further advance knowledge in the field of toxicology.
