Back to School

Crayons, modeling clay, and other school supplies can resemble food to a child. Keep these tips in mind: 1) Supervise children using school and art supplies. 2) Make sure the following items do not enter children’s eyes or mouths:

These items can be splashed into the eyes, swallowed or spilled onto skin. The majority of these products are quite safe, but it always best to keep kids from putting items in their mouth. They can be a choking hazard or cause an upset stomach.

Other supplies, like calculators, may contain batteries or magnets, which are very dangerous if swallowed. Keep these small items away from children. See our blog post “Uh Oh! I shouldn’t have put that…in my nose!” to learn more about the risks of children putting small items in their mouths or noses.
